QuickBooks Cleanup & Catch-Up
If your QuickBooks file has gotten away from you, it’s usually not because you did anything wrong. It’s because you were busy running the business. The bookkeeping is the part that slides, and once it slides a few months it starts to feel like a wall you can’t get over.
That’s the work I do. I take QuickBooks Online files that are behind, messy, or set up wrong, and I get them clean and current. When I’m done you have books that match reality and financials you can hand to a lender, an accountant, or yourself without wincing.
Signs you’re due for a cleanup
- Your bank and credit card accounts haven’t been reconciled in months.
- The Profit & Loss shows numbers you already know are wrong.
- Transactions are sitting uncategorized, or the same ones are in there twice.
- Your accountant asked for something and you couldn’t produce it.
- You’re applying for a loan or a line of credit and need clean financials, soon.
- Last year never really got closed out, and now this year’s on top of it.
- You started in QuickBooks but it was never set up right in the first place.
If a few of those hit, a cleanup is what fixes it.
What a QuickBooks cleanup actually involves
Every file is different, but the work usually comes down to reconciling your accounts back to the bank, sorting out the chart of accounts so it makes sense for your business, fixing miscategorized and duplicated transactions, catching up the months you’re behind, and correcting the setup problems that were quietly throwing everything off. If payroll or sales tax is part of the mess, I handle that too.
The point isn’t just tidy books. It’s that once the file is right, the reports finally tell you the truth about your business.
How it works
First, a diagnostic. Before I quote anything, I look at your actual file so I know what I’m dealing with. Then I tell you plainly what shape it’s in, what it’ll take to fix, and what it’ll cost. No guessing, and no open-ended meter running.
Then the cleanup. I do the work up to an agreed stopping point, usually a clean, closed prior year and your books caught up to current.
Then it’s yours. You get books you can trust and a clear read on where things actually stand.
A cleanup is a project with a beginning and an end. You’re not signing up for anything ongoing to get it done. If you’d like me to keep the books going once they’re clean, that’s an option, but it’s your call, not a condition.
